Improving Accessibility for Local Music Festival
Role: Accessibility Consultant (Pro-Bono)
Services: Venue accessibility assessment, accessible communications guidance, onsite support
Project Overview: In its 7th year, local community-focused music festival Patiyochella held its biggest event ever - this time, at a new venue, the Gilman Wine Block in Berkeley.
Patiyochella founder Kelsie wanted to make this year’s event as accessible as possible, so all attendees could enjoy the event. We worked together to ensure promotional materials had accessible color contrast, added alt text and captions to her social media content, and did a venue walkthrough to ensure wheelchair accessibility.
With flat, street-level warehouse spaces and zero-step entrances throughout the venue, the Gilman Wine Block was already off to a great start. We also made sure onsite vendors, stages and seating areas avoided introducing any barriers, and created low-noise spaces for those who needed a break from the main stage volume level.
With accessibility considered from the start, Patiyochella created a welcoming and inclusive experience for attendees. Follow along as we continue to make Patiyochella more accessible each year!
